6.3-inch screen, 48-megapixel camera and good performance. This is the new ‘smartphone’ from Xiaomi.
In a year and a half, Xiaomi has gone from not selling officially in many European countries to being at the top of the sales lists. In fact, took advantage of the event of its first anniversary last November to announce that it has already sold more than one million devices in our country, it is among the most demanded brands and, by the way, also among the best rated.
Its latest release -under the Redmi brand- is the Note 7, a terminal that should be highlighted, first, its price: from 170 dollars the basic version, with 3 GB of RAM and 32 GB of internal storage; although we have tried the superior, with 4 and 64 GB, respectively. We advance: it is very difficult to find another model in the market with its benefits in this price range.
Analysis and valuation of Xiaomi Redmi Note 7
Lets start by the beginning. Redmi Note 7 is a device with a wide screen of 6.3 inches and frames rather small. Characterized by a design not typical of its range – so well finished – it is somewhat thick and heavy, with 8.1 millimeters of thickness and 186 grams of weight. That does not mean that he feels comfortable in his hand, although it is practically obligatory to use it with both of them.

Coated with Gorilla Glass 5 glass, both in front and behind, conveys a feeling of resistance. It also helps that the corners of the chassis have been reinforced to better resist falls or that their ports are hermetically sealed to ensure their survival when in contact with liquids.
On the back of the phone is located the fingerprint reader, in a perfect centered position to unlock it without looking at the first time. This component, in addition, works very well. The double camera is, on the other hand, on the side. It excels a few millimeters, so it tends to take all the hits and makes the terminal is not completely stable when placed on a table.
Smile for the photo
These cameras are, without a doubt, the differential element with respect to their competition. Specifically, it has a main sensor with 48 megapixels of resolution and aperture f / 1.8, as well as a secondary five-megapixel sensor that is only used to take depth readings.
To enjoy those 48 megapixels it is necessary to activate the option manually from Pro mode in the camera app. Otherwise, the captures are taken with 12 megapixels by default. It has a trick, because they are pixels larger than usual, with a size of 1.6 μm that are created thanks to their grouping of four in four. In this way, they are more sensitive to light and, therefore, get better illuminated images.
For practical purposes, the difference between one and another resolution is minimal and equally admirable: sharpness, somewhat saturated colors, good level of detail and fast focus. And it is very complicated for a terminal with this price to obtain this type of photographs; They are even better than the ones we got a few months ago with the Xiaomi Mi A2. In addition, it allows to take photos with bokeh effect with a good resolution in the complicated areas, like the edges.
The best thing is that, at night, he also defends himself. Of course, it does not equal high-end smartphones, but thanks to its Night Mode, it does maintain a good level of detail without artificially over-producing results.

We already advanced that the screen has a size of 6.3 inches. Well, its technical specifications are completed with Full HD + resolution in 19.5: 9 format. In general, what is expected: it is enough to visualize all kinds of contents in a clear way and without perceiving the pixels individually. To emphasize the adjustment of automatic brightness, fast and accurate, that allows to continue enjoying the images in any environment. Oh! It also has a drop-shaped notch that does not interfere too much. It is complemented with a loudspeaker located at the bottom that gives a correct sound, but with a volume too low.
Finally, let’s talk about the user experience. The performance of the Redmi Note 7 is adequate. With a Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 processor last year quite solvent and 4 GB of RAM, we can perform a wide variety of tasks without experiencing large delays or excessive heating. The exeption? The games, as usual. What we liked the least is the interface. Although it works with Android 9, it has a very intrusive MIUI 10 customization layer that hides it completely. More similar to iOS than Android itself, it has a wide variety of options and too many pre-installed applications (AliExpress, Amazon, Facebook, Joom …), plus all of its own: calendar, file manager, browser or notes.
THE BEST, THE WORST AND CONCLUSION
- The best: A performance and a photographic capacity above other terminals in the same price range.
- The worst: The interface is too intrusive and the speaker offers a very low sound for our liking.
- Conclusion: Its construction, its performance and its camera are above what we are used to in the mobile range. To improve? The user interface and the sound of your speaker, too just to enjoy multimedia content.
